A proposed task force charged with studying the composition and oversight of the Prince George’s County school board is getting mixed responses, with one education activist describing it as “the first salvo of Rushern Baker’s attempt to take away our voting rights.”
The bill, authored by Del. Geraldine Valentino-Smith (D-Dist. 23A) of Bowie, would create a nine-member task force assigned to study and make recommendations regarding the composition, qualifications and compensation of board members, and establish a protocol for board audits and addressing audit findings. The task force would also be charged with studying and making recommendations on “methods for selecting” board members.
