The Prince George’s County Council unanimously adopted CB-45-2012 as amended, on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. The legislation amends the Prince George’s County Building ordinance, and adopts certain amendments to the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
CB-45-2012 was approved with amendments made by the Council Committee on Transportation, Housing and Environment (THE), during a meeting on October 23, 2012. THE Chair and co-sponsor of CB-45-2012, Council Member Mary Lehman (D) – District 1, offered the amendments enhancing the 2012 IECC beyond current state requirements.
The amended and adopted legislation impacts new commercial buildings in Prince George’s County. It includes additional standards for minimum roof reflectance or “cool roofs,” energy-efficient windows and energy-saving motion sensor lighting, and strengthens IECC efficiency package options. New commercial buildings will also now have a “solar-readiness’” requirement.
Council Member Lehman views these green building improvements to the County’s 2012 Energy Code as another step toward Prince George’s County becoming an environmental leader.
