The Prince George’s County Council adopted CB-77-2012 on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, expanding energy conservation real property tax credit to residents leasing solar energy or geothermal devices.
CB-77-2012 enhances the current solar energy conservation tax credit program for County residents using a Solar Purchase Power Agreement (PPA) or leasing arrangement. Under the legislation, residents installing a solar or geothermal energy device will receive a tax credit of $1,000 with an annual cap of $100,000 to cover part of the upfront cost of installation, or the first twelve months of payments.
Council Member Mary Lehman (D) – District 1, sponsor of the legislation, says CB-77 will encourage more County residents to consider solar energy.
“Currently, approximately 75 residents annually go solar through the existing County program. Expanding the credit to cover PPAs more than doubles the number of annual installations in the County.”
