Three students from Cora L. Rice Elementary School in Landover should be glad they were paying attention to news about singer Whitney Houston’s death this week, as well as the White House science fair, and the polar bears that starred in this year’s Super Bowl ads.
The school’s Science Bowl team — fifth-grade students Prosun Das and Trinity Ingram and sixth-grader Trinity Moon — rattled off answers to these and other questions Tuesday afternoon on their way to back-to-back victories that netted them a spot in the competition’s finals in April.
“I feel excited, great and happy, and a little bit scared for the next match,” said Prosun, of Landover.
Prosun and his teammates beat Beltsville Academy 235-155 after a 235-185 win over last year’s Science Bowl winner, Oakcrest Elementary School in Landover.
The Science Bowl, which began 26 years ago, is Prince George’s County Public Schools’ televised academic competition that features 30 questions from six categories blending science, history and pop culture.
